ForeverMOREHouse Alumni Gift Challenge

Earlier this year, President John Silvanus Wilson Jr. '79 announced the historic visit of United States President Barack Obama as our 2013 Commencement speaker.

In this centennial year of our institution’s name change to Morehouse College and 50th anniversary of the “ I Have a Dream” speech, it is all too fitting that we welcome America’s first African American president to our campus.

His vision, as well as his mandate, is to "lead an unprecedented effort to truly transform Morehouse College." That includes becoming academically superior, operationally excellent and financially impregnable. He believes that "President Obama’s visit is one strong statement of confidence in, and regard for, the institution that produced Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. '48 and so many other transformational leaders in this country and around the globe."

As importantly, the president’s visit is indicative of the trajectory the institution will take toward fulfilling its promise of becoming a cathedral of excellence in higher education.

Morehouse has always aspired to make a difference.  Today, the College’s highest aspirations encompass President Wilson critical mission of leading an unprecedented effort to truly transform Morehouse College. That includes becoming academically superior, operationally excellent and financially impregnable.

President Wilson has asked all alumni to "help show the world that we are an institution worthy of investment by achieving a giving rate of 65% and a total alumni contribution of $10 million by Commencement day."

This appeal is one initiative that reflects a core belief I have: Morehouse must be a “forever” institution. That is, we must thrive rather than merely survive in the years to come; we must realize the College's full potential as the only institution of its kind in all the world. To achieve this, we must have the financial base to recruit and retain the finest scholars and brightest young leaders anywhere. And the world will be watching
